CLEARING
Before the Results
Don't panic but it is well worth looking at the courses available at places you originally applied to but rejected and others similar in case you need to act quickly on Results day. Also just make sure you have all your UCAS paperwork in 1 place ready to grab on Results day. Track passwords etc too...
Prepare your CLEARING SURVIVAL KIT: Water, paper, pen, mobile with credit and charge, money to buy copy of Daily Telegraph for clearing vacancies (for courses/ phone numbers), internet connection, patience.
On The Day
If results don't go to plan, don't panic. Take a deep breath, wipe a tear away and compose yourself- friends and family are really helpful here, plus your friendly careers adviser or tutors. Remember how much you have achieved in the 6th Form. One piece of paper cannot destroy that. Your family will still love you and be proud of you.
Often if you have missed a grade, a university may still decide to take you or offer an alternative course, close to your original, so wait to find out exactly what your firm and insurance offer unis have decided. This can take until noon or later to discover on Track, so it is worth calling them to find out/ register interest in your fate!
Look carefully and enthusiastically at the new options. Research these options, be prepared to convince an admissions tutor on the phone or in person that you are right for them, visit a new university as soon as you can, but think it all through just like you did before when applying originally. You have to act quickly but don't be rash.
Click here for vital UCAS advice on how to approach clearing. Please UCAS has a Twitter and Facebook presence too, while The Daily Telegraph will be the official paper to cover Clearing listings.
