Woody's Webwatch

Who's Woody

Woody is a cheery careers guru with a passion for music, life, sport, media and photography. After a Classics degree at Exeter, Woody completed his PGCE at Cambridge, before settling to life in the Midlands and a position teaching Classics at Bablake, a leading mixed independent school, in Coventry.

In 1998 he became Head of Careers and, continuing as a 6th Form tutor, has a wealth of experience about university applications. He is also webmaster, press officer and magazine editor for Bablake, as well as being fully involved in PSHCE, responsible for the school's social media presence, unofficial school photographer and emulating 'Mike Bassett', while sharing responsibility for the 1st XI football team.

Woody has been Careers guru for ETC magazine and written articles for other publications. As well as writing 'We'll Be In Touch' (on interview technique), he is joint author of 'Developing the Skilled 6th Former'. He is on CRAC's D18 Advisory Board and has led workshops for advisers on a range of topics (including use of the internet esp. social networking in CEG, gap years, interview technique, staying ahead and setting up a careers library) for CRAC, Senior Press, ACEG, Cambridge University and the University of York among others. His mentors have been Tom Griffiths (gapyear.com) and 'Angels of the North', Stella Barnes and Brenda Stephenson.

His philosophy is to have a go and keep his glass of life overflowing. He is keen to encourage young people to be professional, seize opportunities, meet deadlines, network safely, stay ahead of the rest and believe in themselves.

His proudest moment came in 2007 when this website was mentioned on Radio 2's Steve Wright in the Afternoon show as website of the day. Short mentions in the Mirror and Independent also stand out!
